The International Organization of Standardization (ISO) has developed more than 16,500 international standards within several subject areas like quality and environment. The Danish Government Centre for CSR participates in the development of guiding ISO standard by the name ISO 26000 Social Responsibility.
The standard provides harmonized, globally relevant guidance for private and public sector organizations of all types based on international consensus among expert representatives of the main stakeholder groups. The standard is meant to encourage the implementation of best practice in social responsibility worldwide.
In May 2010, Copenhagen, Denmark, hosted the ISO Social Responsibility Plenary Meeting where the final draft of the standard was completed. The meeting was organized by the then Danish Commerce and Companies Agency (now Danish Business Authority) and the Danish Standards Foundation.
